Brenda Bowman grew up on a working farm in the Texas Panhandle, so she had endless opportunity to study nature, the vast horizon and gorgeous sunsets. Nature and the feelings associated with viewing nature play a dominant role in the creation of her art. She has always been drawn to the fluidity of water media, the look of a loose style and sophisticated abstract paintings.
With no formal art training in her youth, she (at 50) set her sights on a beginning watercolor class and took lessons for a few short months. Grandchildren arrived, and Brenda enthusiastically embraced another art form – scrapbooking for each of her six grandchildren while continuing to work full time. After retiring from a rich career in healthcare and extremely rewarding work with a local nonprofit, she began to take workshops and art classes in 2015, and joined the Art League of Fort Bend. She discovered other souls with a clear desire to create, and a multitude of opportunities to continue to learn. Her love of paint, paper and all things “artsy” combined, and a mixed media style emerged.
Whether using acrylics and mixed media, photography, encaustics or watercolor, Brenda is an intuitive artist. She has won numerous awards from competitions held by the Art League of Fort Bend and the Lone Star Art Guild. She currently serves as Secretary to the Board of Directors for the Art League of Fort Bend.
Brenda’s work is displayed at the Fort Bend Art Center. Please stop by and say hello!
