SUE ZELKO ...
Born in Los Angeles, CA, Sue was always interested in art. She started oil painting at age 11, and received a BS degree in apparel design from UCLA’s College of Applied Arts. After moving to Texas, she started oil painting with local artist, Billie Barnes, and studied watercolor, oil, and figure drawing with Lowell and Michael Collins at the Lowell Collins School of Art.
Sue formed a company in the 1990’s called Graffitiwear, to produce and sell painted clothing and accessories for infants to adults. When the art apparel market softened, she took a lengthy break from producing art to take a “day job” and raise a family, moved to Fort Bend County and commuted to and from her job in Houston. After finally retiring from that job, Sue joined the Art League of Fort Bend and returned to fine art painting in earnest. She is also a member of the Brenham Fine Arts League, Oil Painters of America, Plein Air Painters of Houston and Fort Bend Plein Air Painters. Over the last 10 years she has studied in workshops with many local and nationally well-known and accomplished artists.
Sue has won numerous top awards for her paintings in local competitions in Sugar Land, Katy, Rosenberg, Brenham, LSAG Regional and Galveston, and has been juried in to an OPA Salon Show and Galveston’s SWAN Day competition. Her paintings are currently showing in Rosenberg at the 5th Street Gallery, the Fort Bend Art Center, Vogelsang’s Upstairs Gallery, and Ol’ Railroad Café Heritage Hall, G. Lee Gallery in Galveston, and Downtown Art Gallery in Brenham.
